How Cardmarket works

Cardmarket is an online marketplace for trading cards. A listing belongs to a private or professional seller, and your purchase contract is with that seller. The seller describes the item, packs the order, and handles the first response when something goes wrong.

Cardmarket provides the catalogue, seller feedback, shipping choices, payment flow, and support process. You can compare many sellers on one page, but two listings for the same Pokemon card may differ in language, condition, finish, seller location, or delivery cost.

Before buying, match all of these fields:

1. Card name, set, and collector number.
2. Language and whether the card is Japanese or a Western-language version.
3. Normal holo, reverse holo, or another finish.
4. Raw or graded card, including the named grading company.
5. Card condition or sealed-product condition.
6. Seller type, location, rating, and shipping method.

Cardmarket's Pokemon listing guide says its catalogue separates Japanese cards from Western-language cards and records attributes such as language, reverse holo, signed, first edition, and altered art. A cheap listing in the wrong language or finish is not a like-for-like deal.

Check Cardmarket seller ratings

Cardmarket bases seller ratings on recent activity rather than a lifetime average alone. Its current help page says the rating uses the last 100 evaluations or the last month, whichever includes more evaluations. Unsent and lost shipments can lower the rank.

Cardmarket marks sellers below those standards with a red dot and says it does not recommend buying from them. I would skip a red-dot seller. A new seller is not the same as a bad seller, but an account with fewer than 5 evaluations gives you little history to judge.

For an ordinary low-cost single, a new seller may fit your risk limit. For an old booster box, a costly raw card, or a graded card, I would pay more attention to order count, recent comments, item photos, and tracked shipping. A star measures past orders. It cannot authenticate the product in front of you.

Understand Cardmarket buyer protection

Cardmarket calls its tracked-payment system the Trustee Service. When the service applies, Cardmarket holds the seller's payment until the buyer confirms arrival. The official help page says the service needs tracked shipping, with few exceptions.

The Trustee Service protects the payment flow, not the item's authenticity. If the parcel arrives with the wrong card, language, condition, or product, do not confirm arrival while the issue remains open. Contact the seller through the order page first.

For a tracked order that has not arrived, Cardmarket says buyers can report it after 14 days from the seller's shipping confirmation. The seller then has 14 days to supply tracking information and start a postal investigation. Cardmarket warns that an investigation can take up to 3 months.

Use tracked shipping when the loss would bother you, even if Cardmarket does not require it for that order. The cheaper untracked option saves money by removing the delivery record that the Trustee Service depends on.

Private seller vs professional seller

Your rights differ by seller type. Cardmarket's problem-order guide says EU buyers have a 14-day right of withdrawal after receiving a product from a professional seller. It also says private sellers do not carry the same withdrawal right, so a buyer may need to agree on a solution with the seller.

Check the seller badge before treating returns as part of the deal. A marketplace account, seller rating, or high order count does not turn a private sale into a shop purchase.

This does not remove your right to complain when the item is wrong or not as described. It changes the route and the rights you can rely on. For a condition-sensitive purchase, ask for clear front and back photos before committing, especially when the seller is private.

Check the exact card or sealed product

Cardmarket bans counterfeit items, but the ban does not make every listing safe. Compare the listing with an official card image or product page. Ask for current photos when the value or condition makes a stock image inadequate.

For raw cards, check the collector number, set, language, finish, edges, corners, surface, and back. Cardmarket uses its own condition labels: Mint, Near Mint, Excellent, Good, Light Played, Played, and Poor. For sealed products, ask for photos of every side, the wrap or seals, corners, and any tears or dents. Confirm that the seller is offering one factory-sealed product rather than loose packs or an opened display. A price far below other offers deserves a reason. It may reflect language, condition, a new seller, a damaged box, or a listing error. It may also be a bad listing. Check the cause before paying.

Compare the full Cardmarket cost in EUR

The first listing price is not the amount you pay. Cardmarket says shipping depends on origin, destination, weight, and dimensions. Its system also adds a packaging fee. Trustee, currency conversion, and import charges can apply in some orders.

Use this formula:

Delivered cost = item price + shipping + packaging + Trustee fee shown + conversion fee shown + import charges shown

For sealed products, divide that result by the confirmed pack count:

Delivered cost per booster = delivered cost / booster packs

This example uses teaching figures, not a current Cardmarket quote.

The listing starts at 4.67 EUR per pack, but the delivered price is 5.24 EUR per pack. That 0.57 EUR difference matters across 18 packs. Compare the result with live half booster box prices, or use the best price per booster Europe page when the product type does not matter.

What to do when an order has a problem

Inspect the order before you confirm arrival. If something is wrong, keep the packaging and take clear photos of the parcel, packing material, and item.

Then follow this order:

1. Open the matching shipment page.
2. Write down the mismatch in plain terms.
3. Send the seller photos and the solution you want.
4. Keep all replies inside Cardmarket.
5. Contact Cardmarket support from the shipment page if you receive no reply within 5 working days or cannot agree.

Cardmarket's help page gives that 5-working-day step for a parcel that arrived with a problem. It says common solutions include a partial refund for the wrong condition or language. Do not accept a small refund when the item is counterfeit, materially different, or a return is the right fix.

For a costly order, record the parcel before opening it. The video will not settle every dispute, but it can show the package and seal before you handled the contents.
