The standard Pokemon card size is 63 x 88 mm. Sleeve makers commonly describe this as the 2.5 x 3.5 inch trading-card format. Buy sleeves labelled standard size, not Japanese or small size.

Standard outer sleeves are commonly around 66 x 91 mm. Perfect-fit inner sleeves sit closer to the card, so their dimensions differ by manufacturer. Always check that the package says it fits cards up to 63 x 88 mm.

What is the standard Pokemon card size?

The standard Pokemon card size is 63 mm wide and 88 mm tall. TCGplayer uses those dimensions in its card-conditioning standards for Pokemon and Magic: The Gathering cards.

You will also see 2.5 x 3.5 inches on sleeve packaging. That is the familiar trading-card category used by accessory manufacturers. The metric and imperial labels are rounded differently, so do not worry when a package uses one instead of the other.

Regular Pokemon cards from different modern expansions use the same standard format. A higher rarity, textured finish, or foil layer does not require a different sleeve size.

What sleeve size fits Pokemon cards?

Choose standard-size trading card sleeves. Ultra PRO lists its standard sleeves as 66 x 91 mm, while Dragon Shield says its standard sleeves fit cards up to 63 x 88 mm.

That small amount of extra space is intentional. It lets the card slide into the sleeve without scraping an edge or forcing a corner.

Avoid sleeves labelled small size, Japanese size, or Yu-Gi-Oh size. Those are made for narrower cards and can bend or pinch a Pokemon card.

Perfect-fit sleeves vs regular sleeves

A perfect-fit sleeve is a close inner layer. A regular standard sleeve is the looser outer layer most people use for binders, storage, or decks.

Do not force a card into a perfect-fit sleeve. If the card bows, the corners catch, or you need pressure to move it, stop and try another sleeve. Manufacturing tolerances differ, and an overly tight sleeve is worse than a slightly loose one.

What binder size fits Pokemon cards?

Use a binder made for standard-size trading cards. Nine-pocket and 12-pocket layouts both work. Pocket count changes the page layout, not the card size.

Side-loading pages are useful because sleeved cards are less likely to slide out when you turn a page. Check that each pocket accepts a standard sleeved card, especially if you use thick deck sleeves or double sleeves.

The Pokemon card storage guide covers binder pressure, sunlight, humidity, and long-term storage in more detail.

What top loader size fits Pokemon cards?

Buy a top loader marketed for standard 2.5 x 3.5 inch trading cards. Put the card in a soft sleeve first. The sleeve protects the surface, while the rigid holder protects against bending.

Top loader packaging may show the holder's outside dimensions rather than the card dimensions. Look for "standard trading cards" or "fits 2.5 x 3.5 inch cards" on the package.

Thicker cards and cards inside unusually thick sleeves may need a different holder. Standard Pokemon cards do not need a thick-card top loader.

Are Pokemon and Magic cards the same size?

Yes. Standard Pokemon and Magic: The Gathering cards use the same 63 x 88 mm category, so standard sleeves sold for either game usually fit both.

Yu-Gi-Oh cards use a smaller format, which is a common source of sleeve-size mix-ups. If an online listing only says "card game sleeves," check the dimensions before ordering.

What size are jumbo Pokemon cards?

Jumbo and oversize Pokemon cards do not have one dependable size across every era. Older and newer releases can differ. Measure the card you own before buying a sleeve, binder, or display frame.

Do not trim a sleeve or squeeze a jumbo card into a product that is a few millimetres too small. A tight holder can catch a corner or crease the card during insertion.

A simple protection setup

Most collectors only need standard sleeves and a binder. Add soft sleeves plus rigid holders for cards that need more protection. There is no reason to put every common card in a top loader.

Condition matters if you later trade, sell, or grade a card. Read the Pokemon card condition guide before assuming a card is near mint, and use the grading guide before paying submission fees.

TCGplayer's card-conditioning standards specify 63 x 88 mm for Pokemon cards. Dragon Shield's standard-size guide says its sleeves fit cards up to 63 x 88 mm. Ultra PRO support lists standard sleeves at 66 x 91 mm and distinguishes them from small-size sleeves.

FAQ

What size is a Pokemon card in millimetres?

A standard Pokemon card is 63 mm wide and 88 mm tall. This is the same standard-size trading-card category used by Magic: The Gathering. Jumbo and oversize promotional cards can use different dimensions.

What size is a Pokemon card in inches?

Accessory manufacturers commonly describe Pokemon cards as 2.5 x 3.5 inch standard trading cards. The metric specification is 63 x 88 mm, so the inch label is a familiar rounded category rather than a precise conversion.

What size sleeves should I buy for Pokemon cards?

Buy standard-size trading card sleeves that fit cards up to 63 x 88 mm. Common outer sleeves measure around 66 x 91 mm. Avoid small or Japanese-size sleeves because they are too narrow for standard Pokemon cards.

Can Pokemon cards fit in Magic card sleeves?

Yes. Standard Pokemon and Magic cards share the same 63 x 88 mm format. A standard-size sleeve intended for Magic cards should fit a regular Pokemon card, provided the manufacturer's listed dimensions match.

Do rare Pokemon cards need larger sleeves?

No. Standard rare, foil, illustration rare, and textured Pokemon cards use the same card dimensions. You may choose stronger protection for an expensive card, but you do not need a larger sleeve because of its rarity.
