Pokemon ETB promo cards started with Shaymin-EX XY148 in the 2016 Generations Elite Trainer Box. As of July 16, 2026, 36 different English promo cards have been released in an Elite Trainer Box or ETB Plus. That becomes 61 collector variants when the Pokemon Center-stamped versions are counted separately.

Pitch Black adds Zarude MEP 088 on July 17, 2026. Nidorina MEP 101 follows with 30th Celebration on September 16, bringing the announced total to 38 different ETB promos.

All Pokemon ETB promo cards at a glance

This list counts each card number once. A Pokemon Center-stamped copy is a separate collector variant, but it does not create a new row because the Pokemon, artwork, and promo number stay the same.

The scope includes English Elite Trainer Boxes and the two European Sword & Shield ETB Plus products. It excludes promos from Ultra-Premium Collections, Build & Battle Boxes, tins, blisters, and store campaigns.

XY and Sun & Moon ETB promo cards

Elite Trainer Boxes existed before Generations, but most early boxes did not contain a promo. Generations was the first ETB to add one. During the Sun & Moon era, promos remained mostly limited to special sets.

The artwork on the box is not always the promo inside it. An ETB can feature one Pokemon on its packaging and include a different card, so use the promo number rather than the box mascot when checking a listing.

Sword & Shield ETB promo cards

Sword & Shield followed the older pattern: regular main-set ETBs usually had no promo, while special-set boxes did. Zacian V and Zamazenta V are included because they came in the Sword & Shield ETB Plus products sold in Europe.

The Pokemon Center ETB format arrived during Sword & Shield, but those early Pokemon Center boxes did not yet add the stamped promo system used today. A Celebrations or Crown Zenith Pokemon Center ETB therefore does not contain a special Pokemon Center-stamped version of its promo.

Scarlet & Violet ETB promo cards

From Scarlet & Violet onward, every expansion received at least one ETB promo. Each Pokemon Center ETB included the regular card plus a second copy with a Pokemon Center logo.

Two-box releases are easy to miss. Scarlet & Violet base, Paradox Rift, and Temporal Forces each have two ETB designs with different promo cards. Buying either version does not give you both promos.

Mega Evolution ETB promo cards

The Mega Evolution era continues the two-card Pokemon Center format. A standard ETB has the regular promo. The matching Pokemon Center ETB has that card plus a stamped copy.

Pokemon's official Pitch Black product announcement confirms that the regular ETB contains one Zarude promo, while the Pokemon Center box contains two Zarude promos, one with the logo. The official 30th Celebration listing gives Nidorina the same treatment.

Do all Pokemon ETBs have promo cards?

No. Many ETBs released before Scarlet & Violet have no promo card at all. The box theme, sleeves, or player guide can feature a Pokemon without a matching card being included.

The useful rule is:

  • Generations through Sword & Shield: special-set ETBs often have promos, but many main-set ETBs do not.
  • Scarlet & Violet onward: every expansion's ETB includes a promo.
  • Pokemon Center ETBs from Scarlet & Violet onward: one regular promo plus one Pokemon Center-stamped copy.

Check the exact product contents before buying an older box. A high sealed price does not prove that an ETB contains a promo.

Is the Pokemon Center-stamped promo a different card?

It is a different collector variant of the same card. The stamped and unstamped versions share the card number and artwork, but the Pokemon Center logo makes them distinct when building a checklist or comparing prices.

This is why the released total can be described in two ways:

  • 36 different promo card numbers through Chaos Rising.
  • 61 variants when all released Pokemon Center-stamped copies are added.

Sealed and unsealed copies are conditions, not additional card variants. The same applies to graded copies.

The Pokemon promo card guide explains how stamps, card numbers, and product origins affect identification. For the sealed products themselves, compare a Pokemon Center ETB with a regular ETB.

How to collect ETB promos without buying every ETB

Buy the single unless you also want the packs, accessories, and box. The promo is guaranteed inside the ETB, but opening a sealed product is an expensive way to reach one known card when the rest of the contents do not interest you.

Before buying a single, check:

  1. The promo series and number, such as SVP 159 or MEP 080.
  2. Whether it has a Pokemon Center stamp.
  3. The language.
  4. Whether the card is still sealed in its wrapper.
  5. The card's actual condition, including corners visible through the wrapper.

Before buying the box, compare the current Elite Trainer Box prices and best ETB prices in Europe. If you only want the promo, subtract the price of the single from the ETB total before deciding what the packs and accessories are costing you.

FAQ

What was the first Pokemon ETB promo card?

Shaymin-EX XY148 was the first English ETB promo. It came in the Generations Elite Trainer Box released in 2016. Earlier Elite Trainer Boxes did not include promo cards.

How many Pokemon ETB promo cards are there?

There are 36 released English ETB promo card numbers as of July 16, 2026. There are 61 released collector variants when the Pokemon Center-stamped copies are counted separately. Pitch Black and 30th Celebration bring the announced totals to 38 card numbers and 65 variants.

Do all Scarlet & Violet ETBs have promo cards?

Yes. Every Scarlet & Violet expansion ETB has at least one promo. Sets with two ETB designs, including Paradox Rift and Temporal Forces, use a different promo in each version.

Do Pokemon Center ETBs have two promos?

Pokemon Center ETBs from the Scarlet & Violet era onward include the regular promo and a second copy with a Pokemon Center logo. Older Pokemon Center ETBs do not always follow that format.

Are ETB promo cards guaranteed?

Yes, when the official contents list names a promo card. It is a fixed box inclusion, not a random pull from one of the booster packs.

Is an ETB promo worth more while sealed?

Sometimes, but the wrapper does not guarantee a higher price or better condition. Compare recent sales for the exact card number, stamp, language, wrapper status, and condition.

Sources and update policy

I checked the full product history against Bulbapedia's Elite Trainer Box list, which separates ETB themes from included promo cards. Pokemon's official product pages confirm the current formats for Chaos Rising, Pitch Black, and the 30th Celebration Pokemon Center ETB.

This checklist changes when Pokemon confirms a new English ETB promo or releases a new stamped variant. Announced cards stay marked as upcoming until their official release date.
